Onwards to Hungary

This morning I struggled to find my rhythm. For some reason, I didn't sleep so well last night. And I'd probably eaten a bit too much breakfast. So the start was rather rough. Fortunately, at least there was no headwind and the roads were good.

Today was the first day on which I cycled a bit more often on normal roads, so far almost everything has been a cycle path. And that was also the case today for the most part. The weather was glorious again and today I had the impression of spring. Flowers and trees seemed to be blooming everywhere.

When the headwind started again after the basilica in Esztergom, I had a bit of a low. I was brooding and my thoughts were going round in circles. Being in the «now» was no longer possible and for a moment I questioned everything: why am I even doing all this? Well, apparently I really hadn't had the best day today and then such thoughts are obvious. If I get a good night's sleep tonight, the world will look different again tomorrow.

Shortly after I had definitely arrived in Hungary, I took my lunch break on the Danube and the sun was even shining at times (I had already been on Hungarian territory briefly to see the basilica, but then travelled back to Slovakia). At some point there was another ferry crossing of the Danube, but this time I decided not to take the ferry and to stay on the same side of the Danube. As in many places I had already passed, EuroVelo Route 6 was marked on both sides of the Danube. I would have had to wait 20 minutes for the ferry and I didn't fancy that. From then on, I finally felt a bit better and pedalling was fun again. Shortly before arriving at my friend Júlia and her husband Balazs and their two children, I crossed the Danube after all, but over a very large bridge. I arrived a little after 4pm and a little over 6 hours later.

It was really nice to see Julia and Balazs again, we hadn't seen each other for 13 years. But I didn't feel any of that. We were still familiar with each other and I had the feeling that the two of them still looked the same. When Balazs enquired which route I had taken, he said that Szentendre was particularly beautiful. However, I would have had to take the ferry to get there. Due to my change of route, I didn't get past this place - maybe another time.
