A Happy Reunion

This morning, we first visited a flower field not far from our hotel. Afterwards, we left the Nalati grassland area and headed toward the Tangbula grassland region. Along the way, we also saw several cyclists. Since I had ridden through the Tangbula area by bicycle a little over a week ago, I did not take many photos here today.

We drove all the way up the valley to the Duku Highway and had lunch there. There was even time for a bit of fun and mischief with Eden. To my surprise, the Duku Highway is currently closed because of a recent rockfall, and apparently a large boulder is blocking the road. That means my smooth bicycle crossing on June 2 was not something to be taken for granted—it also required a bit of luck. It seems unlikely that we will be able to travel on the Duku Highway tomorrow.

After checking into the hotel, we drove to the nearest town, where I experienced another reunion. I had spent a night there almost two weeks ago and still had fond memories of the restaurant where I had eaten. After a short walk, we returned to the same restaurant for dinner today. The chef immediately recognized me and was clearly very happy to see me again.

Tomorrow we will return to Ürümqi, and with that, my journey with Yanan and her family will almost come to an end. More precisely, only one final overnight stay in Ürümqi remains.
